Oxyfluoride glass ceramic doped with Eu2+/Eu3+ for 400nm
Mr. Sang Heon Lee
Kongju National Univ.
Oxyfluoride glass ceramics have been widely studied due to their high chemical and thermal stability of matrix as well as low phonon energy of fluoride nano-crystals. The low phonon energy around the rare earth ions can improve quantum efficiency of the excited state, thus improve emission. In this paper, we fabricated SiO2-Na2O-Al2O3-LaF3 glasses doped with various rare earth ions. Based on absorption and PL spectra, Eu2+ and Eu3+ were selected as active ions for 400 nm LED color conversion. Concentration of carbon and EuF3 was varied to control the Eu2+/Eu3+ ratio. It was possible to obtain white color coordination under 400 nm LED excitation when 1 mol% of EuF3 with 18 wt% of carbon was added. Emission intensity was increased as the doped glass was heat treated due to nano-crystal formation. Heavy crystallization of Eu3+/Eu2+ doped glass was examined to improve absorption of the UV source and enhance color conversion efficiency when actually mounted on 400 nm LED chips.
